This is a second image of a young eagle drinking from a small pond near Campbell River, on Vancouver Island, Canada. I felt so privileged to witness this scene and to be able to photograph it. Captured with a Nikon D300, Nikkor 600 mm f4 lens and 1:4 teleconverter (840 mm), ISO 400, f7.1, 1/800s.

Oh this is gorgeous…Your eagles have so much personality and to see the water falling out of their mouths. This has such an intimacy an closeness about it. Fantantastic David…love your birds.

  • David Friederich replied

I don’t know how much closer I could get, Anthea. In the past few months, I seem to have captured images of a lot of a bald eagle’s life. I am not sure what to expect next, perhaps a shot looking into a nest. That would be cool! Thank you so much, Anthea.

  • Karen Moore

    Karen Moore

Wow, GREAT SHOT !! I just shot one myself but mine is not the close up you have, I tried really hard to sneek up on the one I found, I only have a 300mm I need that big lens like you. I still like my shot but yours is what I am after. I have seen this one twice in about 2 months so I will try again, I hope I can get closer each and every time.

  • David Friederich replied

Thank you, Karen. If your 300 mm lens is a 2.8, you can extend your reach up to that of a much larger lens by using a teleconverter. Good luck with your eagle.
