Wow extraordinary portrait of the swan…I love how you have brought us up close and personal and how we can see the water droplets over the swans new and the eye and beek. The intense blue provides an wonderful backdrop to the white. Gorgeous work.

  • David Friederich replied

Thank you, Anthea. I was very happy how this one came out. It can be difficult to shoot white when there is a dark background. My settings for this one were spot on. I think this will be in one of next year’s calendars. Love your comment!

Such a beautiful profile! Tripod and manual?? I know stupid question…lol…stunning color and clarity!! The rich blues of the water really sets her/him off!

  • David Friederich replied

Hi Beve, I did have the lens on a large tripod. I was trying to shoot ducks in flight, so was using shutter priority. There was bright mid to late afternoon sunlight, so I cranked the EV down one full stop which not only allowed for a lot of detail in the white and with the water droplets, it also brought out beautiful rich tones in the water. Thank you for the great comment.

Oh my gosh David…..what fantastic details!!! Such beautiful bright light without blowing out any highlights too…not an easy thing to do when photographing a swan or water drops on white. Such a beautiful contrast with the deep blue of the background too!! Great work on this!!!!

  • David Friederich replied

I was actually shooting ducks in flight, when two swans attracted my attention. The light wasn’t my favourite…too bright, little colour. I reduced my EV by one full stop which worked tremendously well. Thank you, Holly.
