A Deer in the Grass
I seldom see a mature buck, but on this day I was lucky, and I even had my camera and long lens with me. It was a gorgeous early morning with no one else around. I was privileged to witness one of God’s most beautiful creatures. Yet, I could not help think that my camera and lens could have easily been a rifle and scope. So easy to kill such a beautiful creature, for such a trivial and primitive reason. I spent the rest of my day worrying about him, because hunting season nears, and he is a prize.
Captured on my D300, 600mm lens, 1/320, f11, ISO 400. Processed in PS Camera RAW for tone and sharpness, sized in PS CS3.

wonderful capture! Hope he makes it through the hunting season,I know there are many that hunt just for sport- I just don’t get it. It is a shame.

David Friederich replied
I don’t get it either, Michelle. Hunting has survived as one of the blood sports. Why?

Great shot! I dont think he would have posed so well for you if you had a gun instead of a camera.
David Friederich replied
Thank you. Sadly, I doubt he would know the difference.

Great photo David.
As a hunter as well as a photographer I appreaciate moments like this. I don’t hunt much anymore because the last time I did I went for the camera instead of the gun and decided at that time to just hunt with the camera.
David Friederich replied
I am glad you put down your gun in favor of your camera, Bart. Thank you for commenting, and I do apologize for taking almost a month to reply.
