Returning to the Nest
I was watching a bald eagle nest in Ladner, BC, Canada, which is just south of Vancouver. The adults were coming and going at intervals. This image shows the female returning to the nest, and just about to land on a branch. The nest is to the right of the picture. The image was captured using a Nikon D2Xs camera with a 600mm lens and 1.4 teleconverter mounted on a tripod.

Paulo van Breugel
Unbelievable, woh! Great timing, good colours good, sharp… I wish I had the opportunity to see an eagle like that (and yes, to take a picture like that would be a huge bonus :-)
Gail Bridger
Very nice capture. I love these birds, and we are so blessed by their company!
They are graceful & full of elegance.
4spotmore
Thought you would need an excellent camera to capture a picture of that magnificent bird.
We have Wedge Tail Eagles here in Australia. I will try to photograph them when I see them next
at my Daughter & Son-in-Laws grazing property in Central Queensland. They can’t be trusted
around young calves, & they have learned not to have known nesting sites & calving mothers
in the same paddock. I guess the same would be applied to the bald eagle.

Bill Stephens
Well David, that shot is a one-in-a lifetime. i have chased eagles all over the place and I know how difficult it is. I am packing to head out for 10 days into the wild again. I am heading to a place I can’t even take good equipment for fear of returning without it. I almost didn’t make it back myself once. It’s more for the adventure and solitude.

Steve Bulford
Wow…what a great capture, well done!
David Friederich replied
Thank you very much, Steve. The nest is just out of view to the right. Both parents had left the single nestling. So I just hung around shooting “baby” for about an hour, when they suddenly returned at the same time. I didn’t know which one to focus on, but I tracked the female into this branch shooting continuously until she landed. I picked the right bird. The male went to the other side of the tree. This was the best shot in the sequence.
