Sometimes It's So Hard To Try Being Yourself

Sometimes it’s so hard to try just being yourself,
Because expections from those around you become increasingly demanding.
And if you happen to slip according to the standards they set for you,
Then they feel like you have failed and they insist you are not the same person.

Sometimes it’s hard to try just being yourself,
Especially when the weight of your friends and family push down at you shoulders.
And when you try to get up from all the problems surrounding you,
There is no one there as a safety net and you slip again further into the depths below.

Sometimes it’s so hard to try just being yourself,
When others want to compare you to another person they view better than you.
And no matter how much you improve from your past mistakes and sins,
It is never enough for them to find forgiveness and they turn away from you.

Sometimes it’s so hard to try just being yourself,
When they don’t like the clothes you wear because they want you to look like them.
And they want you to look at their expensive wear even if you can’t afford it,
Only to call you cheap behind your back and down grade your self-esteem.

Sometimes it’s so hard to try just being yourself,
When you walk, talk, eat, sleep, feel, and act the best way that makes you feel good,
Yet, in their eyes they do not see your inner self that does not pretend,
To be anybody else other than your own, beautiful, loving, caring, and forgiving self.

Oscar, I understand and can relate to this write. Powerful, honest, real and heartfelt. Society, family and friends can sometimes paint a certain image and keep you boxed in that image. How they believe you should be, how to act, what to feel, what to think, how to look…etc…it can be upsetting, tiresome and frustrating. It’s one thing if a loved one or friend compliments you on something and encourages you to continue doing so…or says how lovely or handsome you are today. Those are just beautiful expressive compliments. But when someone wants to change you into the image that have of you, that is just wrong and unfair.
Thank you so much for writing and sharing such a thoughtprovoking, sincere, heartfelt and important write. Big hugs and smiles from across the miles…peace and love be with you and yours always, Lisa =)XO

  • Thank you for reaching in your heart to read more of my life as I tell stories of my past, and, or perhaps the now. As always, you learn a little bit more of how I view the world, and how others might be seeing me. I still hope you feel it was worth knowing me and continue to see me for who I am. You have such a big heart, and I hope the tear drops will not discourage you for reading on, and hope you don’t get sick of me or my work. You rock as always.
