Memorial Day

This can be a painful day to remember for those still standing for freedom,
Be it a service man or woman, or perhaps a veteran with a story to tell.
Somewhere in the mind of each one of us is the dedication to serve,
Knowing the sacrifices of being ready to fight or perhaps a memory of a war.

If we still have the body, the pain, and the scars that brings us nightmares,
Then the glory of raising the flag, or lowering one means a tear of the eyes.
We have endured the emotions of those left behind because never found,
Our hearts are at half mass because some are still fighting for world peace.

We salute with pride and hold our right hand to our heart as we sing a song,
To honor our mother country that still stands strong for this price paid.
Yet still we protect those with these rights that spit at our face with no fear,
Because they don’t understand the pain as all they do is complain everyday.

Someday the lost of such rights and benefits will bring a war with no end,
And the feelings of respecting this Memorial Day will eat away their insides.
Today honor those that fought and lost their lives at war and remember,
Freedom came about from the hands of people standing up for these rights.
