Oh How I Wish I Had An Imaginary Friend

Oh, how I wish I had an imaginary friend
to play with me once more.
We could pretend that I was a customer
that came to her store.

With a few coins in my pocket
my eyes would wander in a search for candy,
And she would show me around her business
full of sweets as she had many.

A childish game perhaps but with memories
of a time that too soon came to past.
Never stopped once to understand
the true meaning as the years went too fast.

A little shy boy that made a friend
in the heart without knowing of the love,
That was lost in the disappearing of growing up
as the flight of a white wing dove.

No more make believe stores
that sold the best candy that was so very cheap,
Only an empty feeling of someone I lost
many years ago and that I now weep.

Somewhere in an album a picture of her
with a smile across her beautiful face,
While these eyes stared at the empty lot
of dreams where we often enjoyed a race.

Gone is the experience of holding hands
in the form of an innocence of a child,
Feelings of a trust in a bond that made us friends
as our hearts and legs ran wild.

Chases that lasted until the sun went down
without knowing the distance of a mile,
Only going to bed to rest the body
for tomorrow’s race as I slept with a smile.

Oh, how I wish I had an imaginary friend
once more that I could trust to play,
Push and shove, laugh and smile,
cry and make up and return to me the next day.

Good-bye my first good girl friend
that I didn’t notice how different we were outside,
Because inside our hearts we were full of love
that showed as we walked together with pride.

Oh How I Wish I Had An Imaginary Friend by

How can you forget a friend that was real and made you smile without saying a word? Good-bye, its been a while since I last smile like this but a white dove flew by me this morning and I knew it was you.

I loooove this. I clicked on it immediately because I was joking with my brother about having an imaginary friend yesterday… and wasn’t let down. Good, happy, charming read.

  • Thank you my dear friend, I hope it brought smiles and that you did solve the joke with your brother. Imaginary friends is not a crazy thought in my world because if it is that I must be total nuts and out of this world. Hope you opened your eyes this morning and smiled, yes, just like that one right now, thanks again, go sing a song.

There is nothing wrong with being “nuts and out of this world.” I am, and proud of it. The joke was solved… what a refreshing way to state it. Hm. I like that… and thanks! I almost put my mom to sleep with a song yesterday… in a good way. She said it relaxed her.

TEE, TEE HEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TICKLE AND TEASE!!! this is what sibblings and friends do too each other all through life,, and what I HAVE found is———————- the ones who did not take it as torment or criticize,, came back two fold in my arms years later,, example,, high school friends,
the 25yr. one, found me feeling very awkward with a fella friend who was always there for me, who guarded my every step, at dances, proms, art shows and just summer breaks,, Jimmy WAS there,, why I asked him and his answer was,, I AM the older brother you prayed for you did not receive.. he was my bud, my mentor, my jock I went too all his games, he was the older brother I did not have, because I WAS the oldest in my family.. a girl?? I lost JIMMY when he was only 49, way to young to die of a heart attack.. I had just been at his parents 50th wedding anniversary two months before.. Actually at another function and a friend from the past said,, hey its Jimmy’s parents anniv,, celeb. at such and such,, you need to go,, he has not been home for yrs,, yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,, I said,, I was just a high school friend,.. I went,, was picked up offffffffffffffff my feet as I ENTERED the door,, it WAS Jimmy,, hugs and kisses and intro to his wife and children,, we danced and talked all through the night. I did not realize I meant the same to him back in the day , back in the school gym,, back at graduation, and proms and all,,, Jimmy Votra,, was my bro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nothing more or nothing less,, a life who lives with me now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and always will,, he listened.. he really listened,, thats a friend…………………….

  • I wrote about this in one of my poems that I did not post for everyone to read.l did however put it here on redbubble just about a few days ago. If you read it you will know it was about what you had said here, but I wrote it in a different way, sort of a story with no periods, or like a poem with no commas, oh well, it was very interesting and so you will know that it was about what I read here. iT MIGHT have sounded like I didn’t respond to this, but you will know it when you read it,k however, remember i SAID I was hidding, well, and sick too, so I just let it out like I said just a couple of days ago to those that have me on there list, do you have me on your list,he, he,ha, ha just teasing, but you will know when you read it, thanks for such a wonderful story here.

I loved this , i can relate to the feelings of loss when remembering carefree times. Innocence is a precious thing that we dont know how great it is until its gone.
Oh to be a teenager again with the first love.

  • Thank you so much and I am glad it brought you such lovely memories, thank you for stopping to read and leaving a wonderful comment.

    Memories of a lifetime,so beautiful!

  • Yes, we all have such things in our brains, but we kind of forget to bring them back. I was hoping that this write would release those golden memories in many of us and smile. Thank you so much for reading it and leaving me a comment, bless you.
