A Lending Ear
Sometimes when our own friends fail us we find comfort in our animal friends, and so is the case in this story poem. Thank you so much for your time spent reading it.

A Lending Ear
Driving down a lonely road
on my way home one night,
Something made me stop
because it didn’t feel just right.
It was dark and my glasses fogged up
my line of sight,
I got off my truck and saw a baby deer
with the vehicle’s bright light.
It was sitting there in the middle of the road
next to it’s fallen mother,
She was dead from a car’s hit
so my attention to her I did not bother.
With the cold rain pouring down
I had to made a choice of one or the other,
So I loaded the baby in the back
as she kissed me like I was her own father.
Couldn’t take her anywhere
because the weather was bad as I drove to my house,
The poor little animal was starving
and as I gave it some food it got aroused.
I tried to keep her warm
so I wrapped her with my deceased wives blouse,
And I went inside to the den to take a break
as my usual job of a lazy louse.
About a half hour later I heard the cry
of the baby deer in my storage room,
It was crying for companionship
as it pulled the straw from an old broom.
When I arrived I found an old box of pictures
of when I was a young groom,
It was me standing next to an old ford van
that I had painted it in maroon.
We sat there on the floor the baby dear and me
as we both shed some tears,
Both of us had memories of the people
we loved the most in our shortened years.
Now we are friends as our paths have crossed
to bond and ease our fears,
And we listen to each others hearts for stories
as we lend each other a happy ear.

Yes, sometimes our pets which we love dearly can make us look kind of odd, but they sure can warm the heart of lonely souls like no one else. Thanks for dropping in and leaving a comment, really appreciate your visit.

Thanks, you know some pets can really make us feel so good when we come home to an empty place, they greet us, they warm our hearts with with unconditional love. They sit there and listen to our thoughts, to our troubles, and then they make us smile. Your nice words also warm my heart, thanks again for reading a little longer poem than usual.

Pets can really help in bitter times or times of despair. I have a dog that saved my life when I was robbed at gun point. I thought I was going to die, but I’m still here. I wrote a poem and a story about it and it’s true. Thanks so much for reading and glad that you enjoyed it. Also thank you so much for stopping by to read and leaving a comment, I appreciate that too.

You better have a large coffee pot, because I have plenty to write about, I really feel embarrass because I honestly turn people off. Oh, it’s okay to speak the truth, you see I just write and write and I save them incase they are not finished. Then I get up from sleepless nights and finish them, so please, only read as you wish, no hard feelings. However, I will continue writing trust me, even if people get tired of them. They think that I have a chip over my shoulder, if they knew me, I really am not like that. Enough said, enjoy your coffee and I finished earlier making breakfast for my youngest son of 24, he is a pharmacist at the hospital. He will get married in January, he is my baby, well, he will fly the coop then.
