I Wasn't Perfect, But Then Neither Were You

A Song (I Wasn’t Perfect, But Then, Neither Were You)

(Chorus)
I know I wasn’t perfect, but then, neither were you,
We grew on each other until we came to be two.
If I had to do it all over, would I make myself better?
No way to love you more, as you will know from reading this letter.

Dear darling, I know you’re still mad at me for a reason,
Winter has brought us much sorrow so let’s start a new season.
I promise you that I will always love you till my time ends,
So let’s start talking now so that peace brings us amends.

There is bitterness in my heart from the passing of time,
I’ve gotten older and my memories linger from when I was nine.
My father and mother couldn’t stay together much longer,
They got a divorce because their love couldn’t get any stronger.

I had to grow up as a man sooner that I wanted it to be,
My heart was all broken like a whale on the beach from the sea.
Being a man wasn’t that easy for a boy who wanted the love,
Of both of his parents like the gentle caring of a white-tailed dove.

(Chorus)
I Know I wasn’t perfect, but then, neither were you,
We grew on each other until we came to be two.
If I had to do it all over, would I make myself better?
No way to love you more, as you will know from reading this letter.

Dear sweetheart, please don’t leave me for something I’ve done,
Just give me another chance until your heart I have finally won.
My feelings for you are greater than the power of a volcano,
Don’t walk away with the bitterness of saying you just don’t know.

Forgive me my darling for all the things that I’ve said or just forgot,
I bring these flowers hoping the bleeding will finally come to a stop.
I’ve always love you and forever worship the ground on which you walk,
Come back into my life so that our voices can just start to talk.

My heart is empty and yearning for your tender loving touch,
I miss the sweet sound of you voice and the feelings of such.
Come back into my heart and forgive me for being wrong,
I beg you in this letter and someday I’ll write you a sweet song.

(Chorus repeat twice)
I know I wasn’t perfect, but then, neither were you,
We grew on each other until we came to be two.
If I had to do it all over, would I make myself better?
No way to love you more, as you will know from reading this letter.

I know I wasn’t perfect, but then, nether were you,
We grew on each other until we came to be two.
If I had to do it all over, would I make myself better?
No way to love you more, as you will know from reading this letter.

Beautiful. You write excellently. This song has much potential, and I hope you see it realized.

  • Thank you so much for your generous heart felt opinion and warm comment. I too have that dream, but I need someone with musical talent to sing and write the music, I have no such talent. Oh well, I’ll keep dreaming because in them I can do it. Thank you so much!

Thank you Sharon for shar-ing your wonderful comment. It’s hard for people to get into the mood of a song, some seem to forget that poetry is a song of music. Again, thank you for stoping by to read and comment.
