There Is Still Time
There are still many veterans suffering from the war. This poem talks about many of their problems. I sat down with some of them and I wrote some notes about what they are going through. What a shame.
There Is Still Time belongs to the following groups:
All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Live, Love, Dream, War and WMGI often think today is my last day of life.
As I yearn for food, shelter and for my wife.
With extented hands I reach for a crumb.
As I hear say, “Theres goes another bum.”
I say, “Hear my heart searching for my lost.
Someone that I would pay for at any cost.”
They see dirty clothes and one worn sock.
A lonely heart, lack of love, and my bad luck.
Why feel sorry for me then walk away?
Give me hugs and have something nice to say.
Show me that I am not alone on this earth.
And that your love is gold with a worth.
I could be a veteran for all you know.
With a tombstone, “Here lies a John Doe.”
I suffered through my countries war crimes.
And my mind must now pay for those times.
Go ahead and criticize as I walk the streets.
Searching for forgiveness to those I greet.
I fought for America and this is who I am.
Just another worthless bum to UNCLE SAM.

There really is no excuse for the way people are treated, especially when we don’t know their circumstances. I saw a movie the other day “Song Within” about a Vietnam veteran made deaf in the war and his civilian life when he returned. Keep writing about these issues oscar because we always need to be reminded of injustices!

I guess I’ve been guilty of walking past these ‘bums’ & not even wondering why they may be in that place. Thanks for reminding me that we are all human beings.
God bless you.

Thank you, when I sat down with the drunk ones, I watched, I converse, I listened, and you would be surprised why at the reasons they are like this. I plan to write more on some of the real reasons behind them. Not all are innocent, trust me, I’ve seen them too, however, there is truth beyond what we understand as to why they have become what they are. Stay tuned to some of my other veteran poems and you might understand their grief. Thank you so much for your patience, your understanding, and for just speaking the truth. Your comments as I stated before are always welcomed.
