Eastern TBM-3R Avenger 53319 G-BTDP by

Avenger G-BTDP started life in the 40s as a TBM-3 torpedo bomber built by the Eastern Aicraft Division of General Motors. Late in it’s US Navy Service it was converted to a TBM-3R seven seater carrier on-board delivery version. In 1988 it was imported into the UK by Tony Haig-Thomas who flew it for a few years before selling it on to Switzerland. It is pictured here taxying in after landing at West Malling for the 1990 Great Warbirds Air Display. It is painted as the aircraft famously flown by a certain Lt George Bush.

Great shot. I don’t now much about the Bushes but I’m guessing it was senior who flew it.

  • Thanks Nigel! You’re right of course. I just can’t imagine anyone’d trust Dubbya enough to fly one of these!
