Unusual looking aircraft, what are the rockets under the wings?
Thanks Nigel! Unguided air-to ground rocket projectiles, small bombs could also be carried as well as flares and smoke bombs for target marking. A true multirole aircraft the Bird Dog was used on many different kinds of mission, dating from the 1950s it was operational with the US Army, Air Force and Marine Corps who used it in Korea and Vietnam and it was supplied to the armed forces of 20 other nations. Around 3,500 were built.
Excellent shot of this much unsung hero aeroplane Colin. – Ted
