"Alcock & Brown" F-4M Phantom FGR.2 XV486 by

This Phantom was one of two of No 56 Sqn identically painted in a special colour scheme in 1979 for the Alcock and Brown 60th anniversary flight and the 30th anniversary of the foundation of NATO. XV486 was the spare, the anniversary flight being completed by XV424. Both aircraft were transferred from 56 Sqn to 228 OCU immediately after the flight. The photograph was taken at RAF Coningsby in July 1979.
