Deadly Pink by

Oleander, Nerium oleander. This gorgeous shrub can reach 20 feet tall with a 6-12 foot spread and is native to the Mediterranean region. Hardy in zones 8b-11. Oleander serves as the host plant for the Oleander Moth and the caterpillars can defoliate a plant in a short time, but it will come back very quickly. All parts of the Oleander are highly toxic (even the smoke, if burned, is toxic); just one leaf is enough to kill an adult human.

Wow! I had no idea it was that toxic!!! Beautiful though!

  • Yes…and I should mention, too that Milkweed is also toxic, but not deadly (unless a lot is ingested). Most plants that have a milky sap are toxic, some more so than others. Just make sure your son knows not to eat it, but he should be out of that stage now, right? Thanks Juju :)

yes,my son should be okay about not doing it but not sure about my dog,Maggie. She eats anything!!!! Though I planted most of it in the alley, where the dogs rarely go. Thx,for the info.

  • I think the dogs will be OK, they probably wouldn’t like the taste of it!!
