Money, money, money

Lots of Irish £Punts and a bit of £Sterling thrown in…those were the days that I had money in my purse….
Ireland converted to the €uro currency from the Irish Punt on January 1st 2002 and the Irish currency was gradually withdrawn from circulation.

    Lovely capture,Orla

I love seeing other countries currency!! Aussie dollars are made from plastic and in very bright colours, they are WEIRD…..I miss the old paper notes :(

  • Orla Cahill replied

I didn’t realise yours were made from plastic…but I suppose that’s very practical. These old notes above were much nicer and bigger than our new €uro currency…we have a €5 note that’s very small and is always tearing…plastic is a good idea. I remember many years ago when I spent my year in Australia that the Australian money was so lovely and colourful. Don’t remember it being plastic though. Maybe it wasn’t back then. :~)

Good to see the old Irish notes again. A little bit of history in your pocket back then, James Joyce, Daniel O’Connell, Arthur Griffith. And they were rather colourful too.
    Nice work Orla!

  • Orla Cahill replied

Thank you Alan. And yes a good bit of history there all right.

Sweet.. I miss the Punt too =( .. stupid yo yo !
I still have an old irish pound note… but i would love a 50punt note… dont suppose you selling =) ?

  • Orla Cahill replied

No sorry. I cashed in all my old notes for €uros. I had 2 x €50 notes until recently and had to send them to the central bank to get them changed. No point holding on to that much ‘un-spendable’ money. You have an old Irish Pound note..wow! ...I think that must be the nicest currency note that I’ve ever seen…Loved the green and creamy ivory colours of it. You should hold onto that. It would be nice if you could scan it and load it into your portfolio. :~)
