there is a story here… that this is a goose makes her loss of her mate no less grief filled for her than were she human. Canada Geese mate for life. The geese that live and raise their families on the park’s ponds fly to the fields next to the farm here… from late autumn to early spring hunters hunt geese here… I’ve witnessed nothing specific (other than the falling of geese from the sky after the sound of shotguns) yet to my mind the story is simple, yet the crossing into inter-specie grief a new perspective for me.
I’d seen her for months standing alone, often with the sheep in the meadows near the park. This morning her honking was mournful… when I saw her in this foggy backlit view on the pond I had to capture it. Shot at Golden Gardens Park, Eugene, Oregon (USA)
