This is the best of the Oregon covered bridges. Shimanek Bridge, with its brilliant barn red color, nestles itself into the lush greenery of the local countryside. it is one of five in the area of Scio Oregon, a heavenly part of the Willamette Valley. The covered bridges have been a part of pioneer life here, protecting traffic from the winter snows and winds. With the rushing, roaring, high level creeks of winter time, passage was difficult on bridges until they were covered with a strong barnlike structure.
