Westland Sea King Mk 50, N16-239, SHARK 21, 817 Squadron, Royal Australian Navy by 


First Flight made on 09/03/1983. Delivered on 11/05/1983. Operated by 817 Squadron. Involved in a force landed into a paddock opposite “Manildra Mill” in Bomaderry in June 1989, after complete loss of transmission oil pressure. It was then towed by road back to HMAS Albatross. Served on board HMAS Success whilst conducting operation in East Timor. Served on board HMAS Kanimbla with N16-100 and took part in the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami relief effort in Indonesia. It was the crew of this aircraft who observed smoke rising from the crash of N16-100 on Nias Island, Indonesia and flew to the scene where the two survivors were evacuated back to HMAS Kanimbla. Listed for disposal 09/2011 after flying 7732 hours. It took part in final Sea King flight formation over HMAS Albatross, Canberra and Sydney Harbour prior to retirement on 15/12/2011.
