how do you know that he is young?
Albert Dickson replied
Good questiion. The older bulls, especially in Yellowstone, will develope much thicker bodyies especially in the neck and shoulders. They fill out more kind of like me:) The mature bulls also be come much thicker in the antler bases. I am no expert but I would put this fellow at 4 or 5 years old.

I camped in Jenny Lake late Sept of 08 and was supposed to go hiking into the mountains but the weather turned really bad and they expected 6-8 inches so we decided not to go. Laying in the tent at night all we heard was the bugling of the elk. Even though it ended up being disappointing, listening to that all night was priceless!
Albert Dickson replied
It is an other worldly sound to be certain. When in the Tetons in Sept. and Oct. the weather can change realy fast. I was there at the same time as you and by the first week of Oct it was quite nice again.
Mariann Rea
