    wooow! love it
any editing? how did you get the shape?

  • Martin Darley replied

    Hi Babibell (cheesy handle BTW),

There’s no editing required. You’ll need to know the focal length of your lens, and your aperture. You’ll need either a long lens, or a fast lens, but you don’t need both. Divide the focal length by the aperture and you have the maximum diameter (in mm) for your shape.

Eg – 100mm F5.6 lens lets you have a shape no larger than 18 mm (17.85mm if we’re being pedantic). A 200mm F5.6 gives you a 35mm maximum. You can get a shaped punch from most craft stores, or you can cut your own.

Cut 1 shaped hole in some dark card, and stick it over the front of your lens, as if it were a lens cap.

Find yourself a source of many small lights (some people use Christmas lights, I used tail lights from a traffic jam for this shot)

At maximum aperture, defocus your lens, and the shaped Bokeh will form at each point of light.

    Enjoy!
