"Rite of Passage" ∞ Currumbin, QLD - Australia by

Sunrise at Currumbin, QLD – Australia.

This was my very first shoot with the new medium format camera back in September – pretty exciting! However, I made the fatal mistake of trying to compose my images with the standard waist-level viewfinder (rather than the prism I had bought) for this shoot, and found I couldn’t see what I was composing 90% of the time due to the pre-dawn light (or lack thereof!). I think I had about a 1 degree angle in which I could actually see some image in the ground glass!

Because of this I didn’t hold very high hopes for my first shoot with medium format, but I was pleasantly surprised when I got the slides back to see that 4 of the 10 images I shot are actually quite nice. More to come soon!

Shot on Velvia 50 transparency film with a Mamiya RB67, 50mm C lens, B+W polariser and Lee filters.

I’ve been hanging out for this for ages Jason, wondering when am I going to see some shots from the big Mamiya. Well, it was worth the wait, I’m so pleased to have been able to help speed the process up. LOVE IT!
    Regards,
    Brett

  • Mate I was planning to BM you soon – the best is yet to come from this 1st roll I think! We also just got back from a couple of weeks doing the southern NSW coastline, shot 12 rolls there, and really really can’t wait to get into them! (got such a backlog of images/other stuff going on I’m only getting around to Septembers stuff now!)

In any case, I owe you many thanks (and probably a beer or seven) for your advice regarding this beast mate!
