A shot of a Scarlet Jezebel butterfly (Delias argenthona) taken near Linville in QLD, Australia.

This is probably one of the most attractive butterflies I’ve seen, but also among the most skittish I’ve encountered.. After probably about half an hour of following this one around a wattle tree I finally managed to snag a usable image.

Shot with a Canon 7D, 100mm f/2.8 L lens and kenko extension tubes. Processed in Photoshop CS5.

Shutter: 1/60th
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 200

Beautiful Jason. Definitely worth the effort. As you’re finding out, macro photography requires a lot of patience and dogged determination, but is so rewarding. :)

  • Thanks Ann :) This I have known for a while, though I am only starting to get bette results recently, in part to an actual dedicated macro lens I’m sure – Instead of a telephoto w/tunes :( Thanks again, and yep it really is rewarding when you get that one uber sharp shot.
