Looking north towards King Island and St Helena island in the distance from Wellington Point (Queensland, Australia) on quite an overcast afternoon.. You can also make out the port of Brisbane along part of the left-side horizon. Sunset was intended this day, but once again clouds bunching up on the horizon have defeated me.

Shot on the 12th of December 2009 with a Canon 7D and a 17-40 f/4 L. Processed in Adobe Camera raw & CS4.

Shutter: 1/8th
Aperture: f/16
ISO: 100

which one of you bought a 7D?? hey you don’t muck around eh?

  • Was me mate, mainly for iso performance with macro, but I’ve actually visibly noticed nicer image quality in general shooting too! Love the thing mate, all is good so far.

(reply) glad to hear it. … so no post-purchase stress then? (yet) :-)

  • Nah not yet, I payed $1100 in cash the rest on the credit card, but it’s ok. Sort of me celebrating/spoiling myself for paying off the new car on schedule.

Love this shot. It’s so natural and minimalistic, I feel like my feet could just touch the water. The sky is such a nice mid afternoon hue as well, just so simple but really calming :)

  • Thanks! Didn’t think you’d like this that much :)

Great shot Jason! Love Australian landscapes.. it’s Success is it’s simplicity, quite right. Lee ND filters worth the investment? Compared with cokin range?

  • Hi Tim, the filters are great mate, but sadly I must say this is the only chance I’ve had to use them, not the most stimulating landscape either.

The whole last month here has been 100% overcast just about everyday, including all the 1 or 2 days I have a chance to go shooting, so I don’t think I can really pass fair judgment on the filters yet, but, the holder is very function and very customizable, can have 1 or 3 holders in place, can have 2 filters slotted in and still shoot at 10mm without vignetting if you like wide angles, and from the few shots i have seen there doesn’t seem to be any color casts and everything still seems sharp. I haven’t used the cokin range, and was opting for the cokin z series, but have heard mixed reports about color casts on the filters and the holders functionality, so I just decided to spend a little more and get the Lee’s.

But again, I haven’t had the opportunity to test them properly, though I’ll try and remember to give you a bell when I do get a good couple of days and let you know how it went :)

Thanks for checking out my work too mate, appreciate it.
