Probably a baby Lynx Spider, but I’m not 100% sure on this. If anyone knows I’d be happy to know for certain.

After some extensive research and a lot of shuddering at some scary looking arachnids, I’m fairly certain this is a species of Oxyopes, the lynx spider. Perhaps I’m wrong but they certainly do look very similar :) Anyway, this is a really nice shot, love these spiders. I get so confused by their heads though, they always look back the front when you can’t see them face on :P

Thanks for your research, looks as though you might be right – though the colors differ slightly they look very similar.

if it has got 4 forward pointing eyes (two BIG bulging eyes in front middle, and two smaller, one either side) and two little eyes on top (6 all up) then it is probably a jumping spider… check out this link – your little beastie might be here: http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_jumpers/index.htm

  • Jason Asher replied

Hi Peter, cheers for the comment. Yeah I’ve used the brisbane insects page as a good reference tool, but until you’re link didn’t think it may be a jumping spider as I recently found a couple of northern green jumping spiders (supposedly the biggest jumpers in Australia) yet this guy was larger. Looks like it may be a aussie brown jumper if any. Cheers for the help Peter, appreciate it mate.

i let trantulas and some go but we have a million black widows here,so they have to go inside or outside… trantulas are wild here, and very common to see

  • Jason Asher replied

Fair enough, thanks for your comment.
