Next Season: Swamp Whitetail by J Leslie Booth

All season long. Every day looked promising. He was so elusive. But, you were sure the buck would finally walk into your sights.

Yet, it didn’t happen.

Bone-chilling frosty mornings. Deodorant destroying heat of late summer scouts. Coffee craving early morning hides and shin thumping stumbles entangle evening departures.

All have added to this cat ’n mouse game the two of you have continued playing for 4 years. By now, it has become more camaraderie than adversarial.

Yes. You could just feel him writhe with glee – if that is possible for a deer – when he dropped another can of ‘deer season whoop-ass’ on you again.

Ah, the drama of your vow at the end of last season still echos in your memory synapse. You really got a bit of a chuckle.

“Dang! That deer is schooling me hard. Givin’ me a complex – you are, Big Boy. A regular complex! Next year. That’s MY year. You wait and see who’s laughing then. Yeah!”

Alas this season ended on the same note as the previous 3. Despite your confidence filled pronouncement, you still had your butt kicked. Again.

    Grand Altogether!

  • Thank you Paul. But you should see the ‘one’ you’re commenting on now. Every bit as good and better: I’m only dealing with ‘my’ likes and dislikes. New ‘series’ launch with this one, too. “Next Season” will end up with something like 35 images. I’m working on 5 of them now. ". )

It’s going to be great, as usual, from your fertile imagination.

  • Thanks Paul for that ‘organic’ vote of confidence. We both know it’s all coming from Booth Serendipity. Eh? ". >>

LOLOL so you’re a fighter…. Love this image but your message just made me laugh….. you are being stalked perhaps!!! Better season next year, I hope!!!
    lol…. great presentation!!!

  • Brenda, thank you for the visit. Glad you liked the image. Not sure what you mean by being a “fighter”. If you mean tenacious, then Yes.. definitely! I do not give up easily. However, this is not the point of the story, nor the eLITHO image.

I am a hunter and a fisherman. Very different than most afield today though. My position on hunting and fishing is – focus on the the ‘heritage’ and insuring it and the resource will be around for the coming generations. It’s just NOT about sport.

I do not refer to hunting and fishing as being sport. Both are far more important than mere sport. Hunting and fishing are unique elements important to the development of the human – nature interface.

My work in this area points to education – how humans best relate to nature and the need to conserve the natural resources for future generations.

What you refer to as ‘my message’, is a short story, written specifically for this image. It’s as a good friend of mine, who is a well known writer and artist of the ‘Sporting Arts’, says: ‘the stories I write are a little bit truth, a little bit lies, based on truth and left for you to figure out the measures of each.’ : )

I hope you followed the link to read the whole story. I also write a regular blog called, Akilologos. Short-stories, news reports, poems, haiku and more based on selected eLITHOGRAPHIC prints are found there. Do visit.

Thanks again for stopping by. Come again soon.

This is one gorgeous shot – may it be the only true bullseye you nail – this is one beautiful animal and picture and begs to be captures again – on film of course!!! ;-)

  • Thank you Marian for stopping by and commenting. The animal and the story are but illusion. The details of both image and story are as real as it gets.

To actually capture by bullet, arrow, or sensor (film is truly out of the equation now), such a quality deer in this environment – would require many days -if not years. Dedicated watching, waiting, enduring the drone and biting of bazillions of mosquitoes and hope everything else – light, timing, pose and luck – fall into place. The likelihood of such a capture actually occurring – would be rare at best. So, you needn’t worry that this magnificent beast would fall at the hands of a hunter, for both the hunter and the deer and the location are pure illusion … flowing imagination.
