Racing cyclists shot on colour infrared transparency film with a slow shutter and panning motion. Shot blindly with the camera held above my head pointing down at the apex of the corner.

The Riders series was shot at the Tour Down Under in Adelaide, South Australia.
The distinctive colours and grain are characteristic of the film. The motion blur was captured in-camera by using camera panning and slow shutter speeds – ranging between 1/15th and 1/2 second. A 28mm wide angle lens further added to the distortion and impression of speed. The camera was a vintage (early ’80s) Pentax K1000. Digital manipulation was limited to minor contrast correction and dust removal post scanning.
