This is the photograph of a racing cyclist that led to the rest of The Riders series. This one was shot on a roll of seriously old and super grainy Kodak transparency film using a Pentax K1000. Shot at the 2006 (I think) Tour Down Under.

The image gets its name from its similarity to Giacomo Balla’s Dynanism of a dog on a leash futurist painting

Syd, it is a shame you have run out of this type of film. I do really enjoy seeing the colour and movement in these works.

  • Thanks reflexio. This isn’t the colour infrared film used for the others in the series, rather it’s some long discontinued film found in the back of the freezer at the photography school – probably part of a donation of expired film from a camera shop. I think it was about 5 years expired when I used it. Probably the chunkiest grain I’ve ever seen in a transparency film.

It’s easy to see why this shot motivated you. It’s rich in many ways and so good on the eye. Stopped me in my tracks! Great series.

Luddites of the world, UNITE! I was prowling around looking for slow shutter speed photos (completely unrelated to your work) and found this image. Which, of course, led me to your portfolio. I like what you are doing, including the colorful and often unintentionally funny wall art in distant lands. Keep up the good work!

  • Why thank you Gina.
