so what happened is this – my flatmate found a 1950s hanimex holiday 35 that belonged to his grandfather and had a broken aperture ring and a mouldy lens and gave it to me. i stuck some expired 400iso kodak film in it, shot a reel, then, just to raise the stakes higher, had it cross processed c41 to e6 which isn’t the best way round to go. and guess what? all the pictures are crap.

On the contrary – this has a super timeless feel, you can’t invent these tones even if you tried! Great result!!!

firstly I love your film photography (especially where you used the holga in black and white!)

secondly I wanted to ask for some advice: I have been given a bunch of old cameras that have been collecting dust for many decades, and I was wondering if you had to get ones like them proffesionally cleaned before giving them a go? Also have you tried using old cameras any other times- and if so did you find it a success? I suspect it may be better worth my time to stick to my lomos…

Any advice would be much appreciated!

  • Personally I have never got anything professionally cleaned. I enjoy randomness and I’m not a professional photographer so the results rarely matter much. I do often use old cameras, usually with expired film, and the results are always hit and miss, just like with the Holga, but I think that’s what I love about it.

No idea if that is helpful.

Ok. You win. Best image on RB so far. Colors are… #€"4, what colors?

I imagine the world may look like this if you wake up drunk in the street at 4 AM with a major headache… -Where am I?

  • Holy crap, best image so far? How many portfolios have you been through? Just mine?

    You’ll find better. Cheers though.
