I occasionally get a fair amount of stick from my mates about being a music hipster as I get all obsessed with the mathematic loops in Autechre or complain that my Betty Harris 7"s weren’t pressed at the best plant. But then I go and see Muse and make them also think I am a pop tart. Keeps them on their toes. But you know, they put on a good show. Unless you’re not into flashy lights or imagining you’re on a space station.

I have to say though, the no alcohol, no smoking, no moshing regulations don’t half lead to no fun. Being in a mosh pit with sober people is basically like standing on a tube during rush hour with your iPod on. You start to notice how disturbingly odd human kind has become and get confused as to why you paid through the nose to be there. Personally I had hoped to break a rib and have 8 people rub their sweat all over me, sadly I think I just got bumped once, and they apologised. “It’s a rock concert” I said, “No need to apologise”. They apologised again. I think the band noticed it too. (The lack of insanity, not me being bumped) A far cry from helping a girl who’d snapped her shin over the fence during Rancid’s set at the Reading Festival in 1997.

Still, fine show. BDO was better crowd though, they’d been drinking for at least 15 hours.

Hello, I have no idea what I am doing.

Last time I went to a concert I got well blasted at a christmas lunch beforehand and had the amazing foresight to lunch on the most intense garlic prawns I have ever eaten. So come concert time, even though I had my wobbly boots on I didn’t bump into anyone while dancing madly as no one was game enough to encroach on my protective garlic breath circle :)

Muse… really? At this rate I’m going to have blisters on my damn toes all thanks to you.

hmmm, the boy went last night, couldn’t rouse him this morning.
I’m at an age now that when I buy seats to a concert I want to sit and demand all the idiots in front of me sit as well.
Then again I’ve seen so many clips and long form concert footage of this concert tour ( as well as Gorillaz) that I feel I’ve been to the gigs already.
Sadly I really aren’t into the jumping and sweating and yelling anymore.

  • Yes, last night. Bit tired today. I thought 30 might be an age where I wanted to buy seats, but turned out not to be. Possibly won’t happen, I’ll just stop going. ‘Being there’ and ‘partaking’ are two different things to me and I can’t be bothered with just ‘being there’, happy with the DVD.

Are you looking forward to your free Gorillaz iPad album?

Fantastic shot!! Went and saw them on Friday 10th in Sydney, couldn’t smuggle in my DSLR so had to use a mobile phone (oh, no!). Excellent visual feast for sure 8)

I had to try all of your tags; “madness gone politically correct” wins. I have to admit to bumping into college chums and going deaf at an intimate Doors concert (before they became really famous). Who, you ask? No, not The Who. How dismal if no one jumps around or dances madly. How’d you take the shot? Lensbaby Muse? Nah, couldn’t be.

So that’s why I can’t seem to get enthused about live music. Non alcoholic. That and my bizarre fondness of my ability to hear.

I’m glad you had some fun though.
