royal observatory, greenwich

people have been looking into the sky from here trying to work out if there were lights up there or if they’d had too much brandy since about 1675.

it’s also prime meridian, or zero degrees longitude. there’s a camera obscura, a very accurate clock and a gift shop.

The place you find yourself in eh?

I`ve always been interested in camera obscuras, did you get a chance to play with one?

  • Well I got a chance to look at it. It was in that smaller domed red brick room that is slightly right of centre in the image above, and it pointed down the hill towards the National Maritime Museum, you stood in darkness watching this live photograph, it was quite peaceful. I didn’t play with anything, I have been thrown out of this sort of place before.
