got any spandau ballet?

No.

I just took this because the Minister of Kerosene had sent me this extremely sad story to read, and I thought I’d pay tribute to a proper collector.

And yes, that is a copy of Get Behind Me Satan on vinyl.

Available for sale as

Greeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints and Framed Prints

See my above comment. Anyway this is only about 60 from a collection of 3500. So make it a tenner and we’ll start talking.

Kids these days don’t appreciate the good stuff. If I had that kind of money to spend, hell, yeah, I’d buy them. My and my dad’s records are prized possessions.

What should happen is his kid should be inheriting them, obviously there is a problem there, or he couldn’t afford kids because he bought two million slabs of wax. It’s a shame though, I’ll never sell mine.

    That`s a fine selection you`ve got there.

That story you linked to worries me though, no-one will even offer 3 for a 50 million dollar collection? In my opinion, the cover art aloone would be worth the money, let alone the actual music. The memories that are sparked when someone see`s a particualr cover/image are priceless.

So what`s going to happen in say, 50 years…

Bollocks. In the old days when you were pinging it down the M4 and wanted to change music you couldn’t just fling your CD out of the player and whack in another like you could with a MD, otherwise your Sergeant Peppers would sound like it had been remixed by QBert.

And I am about to stick all my old MDs int he oven and then when they are a bit melty I’ll stick them all together in the shape of a goat skeleton. All you can do with old CDs is make hippy tree decorations.

“All you can do with old CDs is make hippy tree decorations.”

This just isn’t true – you can also put them in the microwave and watch the bonsai lightning storm. It works with brand-new CDs too of course.

But you can do that with anything, at least anything metal, have you tried a mobile phone? They look cool.
Actually mobile phones could make cool hippy tree decorations too. Save burying them and irradiating all the worms.

That is beautiful (The dedication and collection) and heartwrenching (The lack of interest). Why can they not catalogue and preserve the collection? I’d possibly never leave the premises but they’d get used to me..

Did you catch Unkle on their last tour (BDO 2008 etc)?

    replied

Yeah, saw them in San Fran and then at the BDO, although that new album is a step up from ‘Never Never Land’, they’ll never match the Shadow produced gems from the debut. I remember busting out of boarding school on a monday morning, skiving lessons and catching a train into town to get Psyence Fiction, mainly because I was a Radiohead junkie and that ‘Rabbit in your Headlights’ is a piece of genius, that’s a first pressing, the front of the gatefold opens outwards.
I’m impressed by your postcard barrage by the way. I’m a great fan of letter writing and all it’s offshoots.

  • najeroux

There is a new call for postal goodness which may be to your liking. Saw Unkle at the Metro and BDO. Metro gig kicked the shit out of the BDO. Rabbit in your headlights was my first unkle track. Natural evolutionary scale. Any Bonobo or Sneaker Pimps (Kelly Dayton days) in there?

Fuck yes, got his Dial M and Animal Magic, but also have a CD, pff pff, of remixes and one-offs which is ACE, especially Dismantling Frank and Amon’s remix of Scuba. No Sneaker Pimps, although I did a mash up bootleg years ago of 6 underground and the Beasties Intergalatic, the latter slowed all the way down, it was quite funny. Got played on XFM once.

I can’t see the Muppet Movie soundtrack in there anywhere!! Or Disney’s Christmas Album (where the Muppets sing the 12 Days of Christmas)... but it’s an impressive collection. It’s a shame about all those millions of records going unwanted… or rather, wanted for so much less than they’re worth. Surely a museum could look after them or he could create it into a museum (one where they could actually play the music as well).

If I had I would have left them in Sydney. I have tried getting records from one hemisphere to another and it is a fucking nightmare. Not to mention bad for the nerves.
