Nexus 6

Robert O'Neill

Nexus 6

A fanciful depiction of the psyche of a Replicant, which has the form of a human, yet the soul of blasphemous creation, a Golem, a Frankenstein, a tormented being, anxious and deranged, knowing its time is short and its end inevitable.

The spider patterning exudes the replicant’s un-empathic nature, the thing that separates them from humans.

If you haven’t, check out Philip K. Dick’s Novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. It is brilliant.

Congratulations on being featured in Live, Love, Dream:)

  • Robert O'Neill replied

Thanks Webbie. I guess in some ways it’s appropriate as the novel was called, Do Andriods Dream of Electric Sheep?

This is a very intriguing image indeed. Sometimes lately I think that some ‘humans’ are losing contact with Earth’s reality and are on their way to becoming ‘aliens’. I’ve been working on a story about it and this image comes very close to what I see when I think about their peculiar essences. Thanks for the focus.

  • Robert O'Neill replied

Thanks Nancy. I guess what you say is too true too often. Many times what we are on the outside and what we are in essence are very different.

I would love to see your story—finished or in draft if that is possible.

I like ALL well written science fiction! Must read Blade Runner again though as it’s been many years. The old classic tales are the best … I kinda despair over some of these modern writers and have not really found anyone who make a lasting impression?!

  • Robert O'Neill replied

“I kinda despair over some of these modern writers and have not really found anyone who make a lasting impression?!’

I agree with that. I think it applies to a lot of genres, as well as sci-fi.

I think the problem is that in modern media in general is that of the ‘ending’. It seems that most modern tales end badly, stemming from the desire to give vicarious satisfaction to the reader.

The law of supply and demand.

yes, I do so agree and the possibilty that some Hollywood mogul will come along and turn it into a film!!! I despair. I am totally fed up with modern writers and have gone back to reading Asimov’s Foundation and Empire just now!

  • Robert O'Neill replied

I have the entire set. In fact, I have all Asimov’s Sci-fi books, including Gold and Magic. Bought them all in Istanbul of all places. Fantastic stuff.

Thanks for your interest, Rob. The story is called “Breath of the Black Neon” and is futuristic sci-fi that takes place in Vancouver’s seedy downtown. It’s among several projects that I am always bouncing between – I get more writing done that way – and it’s having a growth spurt lately. I’ll post the first segment soon. And I do enjoy building a story toward an artful ending, as you have been discussing here.

  • Robert O'Neill replied

Sounds great Nancy. I will certainly read it if you give me chance.
