Pygmalion
Hopefully the title says it all.
A couple commented on perhaps the reality/unreality of the image.
It is a 3D render, using photographed skin for a shader and High Dynamic Range Lighitng a spotlight and Global Illumination.
Thus contributing to the ‘realistic’ side of it.
Skin normally has light penetrate the surface and bouncing around (Sub Surface Scattering). This was not turned on.
Also, I gave it a High Key filter (NIK software).
These two helped add to the unreality of an already unreal model..
It is normally possible to add to ‘photo reality’ in photoshop.
I did another render with Sub Surface Scattering turned on and tried a few things in photoshop. I didn’t spend that much time in Photoshop, but I would be interested if anyone thinks they look more ‘photographic’ even with a quick couple of filters on top.

ellamental
I hope I’m not insulting anyone, she looks unreal, doll like.
Robert O'Neill replied
I called it Pygmalion because it is a creation—a statue. Pygmalion, as you know created a statue he fell in love with. So, well spotted.
As to reality . .. Well it is a 3d model….
I guess, that comparing it to other renders here or in deviant art, for example, it’s about as realistic as they are. More so in many, many cases.
The skin is real skin—photographed and applied as a shader. The lighting is HDRI, GI and one spot light. Set on quite high settings.
For extra reality, perhaps I could have increased the photon count or render it in MAX, with V-ray.
ANother option is to work it in photoshop, with camera blur and film filters, perhaps, but I wanted it to be as it was: a creation.

Great angle, nice model, Its good to be different dont you think One ? Well done. Mp
Robert O'Neill replied
Thanks Posh. I think it’s very good to be different. Not an easy thing to do, however. With so much art being made, the chances of real difference and real originality are harder.
but we can try.

I’m jealous! love how you do this , lovely image and I like the placement of the subject.
Robert O'Neill replied
Thanks Shelly. Glad you like the placement. It was a bold choice on my part-
slight break with convention. It was done in Carrara-3d Program. Free trial downloads are available from DAZ~ Ademac

I Love it. I adore the title. Perfect.
Robert O'Neill replied
Thanks Ginger. Glad you like the title as well. I was going to call it something different, but at the last minute, in fact as I was loading it, I got the idea of PYgmalion.

lightsmith
a 3d model? can’t you model me one? it’s phenomenal! As a photograph I’d call it brilliant – love the lighting, the angle, the tone etc. As a creation? Genius at work!
Robert O'Neill replied
Thanks Lightsmith for the support. Carrara has a pretty good render engine. The pose, lighting and angle—just came together as I was making adjustments and trying to light the hair.
Accident and experiment—sometimes the only way to create.

Ginger Barritt
