Jennifer on Canvas

An acrylic on Canvas of Jennifer, my Daughter

Having worked on a few with some students in my School this year, I decided it was time to try a painting for myself.

So, upon reflection this is the first painting that I have done.

Thanks to Martin Kirkwood for hosting on Painters in Modern Times www.pimt.co.uk

Eyes look different , have you altered them ?

  • Robert O'Neill replied

Just a little bit. i wasn’t happy with the way they were. I didn’t think they looked right when viewed close up. Perhaps I got it wrong.

  • Robert O'Neill replied

Wish I had more time to paint . .. develop some skills, but might be moving house and job soon, so don’t want to start anything new at the moment. How are things going with your own painting and course?

  • jomash

    jomash

I alter my work a lot, people dont seem to realise . Good luck moving, change is better than a rest, so they say. My course is ok I have learnt a lot.

    melodious

This is such a beautiful work, you can feel the love in it…. I find it so difficult to paint my children…

  • Robert O'Neill replied

Thanks Melodious. Yes, it was very tricky indeed. Even the slightest mistake, millimeter out of proportion or shadow that is too dark distorts it and ages the subject. I had many revisions on the way with this one.

    Thanks for the view

Wow! First painting ever?! AMAZING! I came to two conclusions on my opinion of your art, and they must both be right….your daughter must be super beautiful and you have a master’s touch with a brush!
    Peace!

  • Robert O'Neill replied

You are too kind. But I have to agree that my daughter is beautiful. I would certainly like to get better at painting. I have been busy recently with relocating but hope to get painting soon—if my daughter lets me. She is a bit of a daddy’s girl.

Thanks once again for your lovely words. I really appreciate it.

If this is your first painting Robert then you’re starting at the top. Quite remarkable my friend.

  • Robert O'Neill replied

Thanks Brian. It is the first painting that I did by myself for myself. Working as a middle school teacher we have to teach everything—so just a few weeks before this one, the students were painting in acrylic. I helped them on a couple of their paintings. Picked up a few techniques along the way. Then I decided to do my own painting.
