In my village in Africa, women wake up long before sunrise. There is so much work to do. Sweeping outside. Building a fire. Cooking maize porridge. When the sun has risen, there’s more to do. Carrying water. Farming in the fields. Collecting firewood. Pounding corn. Cleaning rice. African women work hard but they cannot alone overcome poverty. But co-operation, fairness in trade and aid, unity and working together in the global community may one day make poverty history.
