Artist's Description

Group of German re-enactors setting up the machine gun post at Le Visham (Levisham) at the NYM Railway War Weekend. Ready for the battle re-enactment later in the day.

Machine Gun is the MG-42 one of the most remarkable machine-guns ever designed. Introduced in 1942 as a sustained support weapon. It’s one major drawback was it’s rate of fire. This was so high, at over 1,000 rounds per minute, that many rounds were wasted and it proved difficult to carry suffiencent ammunition. Rounds were in belts of 50 that could be clipped together for continuous firing.
