OldBirch replied
Touche, Ralph! I deserve that!
Stan Wojtaszek
Geez C ! R U ok?
Was Brian around?
Nice shot but I don’t think I’d go quite as far as you did. :)
OldBirch replied
Yeah, I’m fine, just wet.
And of course Brian was around. Who do you think pushed me in?
Michael Dalberti
Ah the things us photographers will do for a shot. lol. turned out fantastic though.
OldBirch replied
I think someone should write a book about the nutty things we will do for a shot. Take a look at this series of 3 shots. It’s unbelievable! Be sure to look at all 3 shots!
Steven Guy
LOL. The things we do for a shot. So what sound does an OldBirch make when it falls ?
OldBirch replied
OK. You win hands down for the best comment!!!
The answer to the question is unprintable…

Oh no !! you obviously threw the camera to safety before you took the plunge ! looks like it was lucky you did’nt get washed downstream looking at how fast that is moving ! great capture and title
OldBirch replied
Fortunately the camera was on the ever sturdy Manfrotto tripod so it was fine. Now I just need another one to hold me up!
nadine henley
did she fall or was she pushed? where was brian?! was the camera safe??? great image – presumably taken before camera and photographer immersion?
OldBirch replied
Now Nadine, this is the truth. I swear. I was in the river on a slippery rock, hunched over, paying full attention to looking through the viewfinder when Brian, safely from shore, poked me in the behind with his folded up tripod. I didn’t even know he was there. I swear, this is the truth!
Brian Carey
The truth is that I slipped and my tripod came up and poked her accidentally, I swear! Hard to believe I slipped I was wearing my best dancin’ shoes! Oh and if the camera went for a swim I wouldn’t be concerned, not like it’s a Canon or Sony or Olympus or ….......
Oh great shot!
OldBirch replied
Slipped. My foot you slipped. Just happened to slip while reaching out over the water with your tripod in exactly the right position. My, what a coincidence!
nadine henley
you two! I knew there had to be some mayhem involved!
OldBirch replied
Who? Us?
Scott d'Almeida
wonderful image,
OldBirch replied
Thank you, Scott!
Jan Timmons
Great shot. (I noticed Scott returned this fascinating thread of comments to the point.) I like this in black and white. Perhaps a 1-second shutter speed? Or more?
OldBirch replied
Darn. I was trying to deflect attention away from the pic. Thank you kindly, Jan. No, actually the shutter speed was only 1/4s. I only used a grad ND filter to bring out the colour of the trees. Use f22 and iso 200. (That is the iso with the lowest noise on my camera).
OldBirch replied
Btw, the nd grad was upside down.
Joel Tjintjelaar
This is another version than the one I’ve seen on your other site. The tones are better here and so are the contrasts.
OldBirch replied
You have a sharp eye! I went out 3 times to try this shot, and had assumed that they would get better. Didn’t go back to look before I posted the other one. I don’t know Flickr well enough to know how to change it there. I’m not as sharp as you!!
OldBirch replied
Oh yeah. I meant to say, that I did that just to test you and Brian. You won.
midzing
fantastic capture, well done
OldBirch replied
Thank you, Midzing!
Jan Timmons
I didn’t think a grad filter had an up or down, you nut. You clearly used the ND filter to get optimum tones or zones from the water. Nicely done.
OldBirch replied
Of course they have an up and down. And I bet you don’t know that you can use them inside out too.
Thanks! : )
