Strings Attached

So named because this is my violin and my son’s first violin. It tugs on my heart whenever I look at it.

--------------
Taken with a Kodak DX6490 in manual mode.
F-stop, 4
Shutter speed, 4
Indirect lighting
Colour: sepia

Post processing:
lightened the exposure to bring out the shadow ( a dear friend actually did that. This was a few months ago with my old camera, and less experience)

I took 105 shots before I got the one I wanted, first going outside in colour, coming in, experimenting with the light. Learned a lot!

OH I just love this! I played the cello so I have a thing for string instruments. But the sentiment here is what gets me! Its just wonderful!

Unfortunately I have to reject if from Photography 101 for the following reason. Please make the changes and re-submit! I would lvoe to see this in the group!

This photo was submitted to the group Photography 101. I like it alot ,however, the group guidelines ask for an explanation in your description about the photography aspects of the work. Can you please give more detail about your camera, lens, settings, what photography techniques you used, etc? If this is not added to your description, I will be forced to reject your photo. Please remember its not a personal thing, but we would liek this group to be a learning group for others. You can resubmit it at any time with the forementioned changes! Thank you!

  • OldBirch replied

    Thanks so much, Taylor.
I was worried about that as I don’t have the specifics on that photo. I’ll give it a shot. But I completely understand if it doesn’t meet the requirements.

  • Taylor Sawyer

    Taylor Sawyer

At a bare minimum give us the camera used and the lens (if applicable). ;-)

  • BCasTal

Another winner. It sounds like it was a lot of work to get the shot, but it was worth it.

  • Taylor Sawyer

    Taylor Sawyer

Hey there, I have a favor to ask! This is a great example of a still life. I was thinking about using this image on the button I am making to create easy access to examples of photography techniques on Photography 101. I just need your permission to snag this work off of RB and use it on the button. Is that ok with you?

PS You will also be asked, when we are ready to do it, to tag this photo with a group tag representing still life photography. This just means you have a good example here and we want to include it in our library of excellent works to exhibit photography techniques.

  • OldBirch replied

Now how could I possibly refuse that? Absolutely. I’m honoured.

And thank you again for all the great work you are doing for Photography 101. You are obviously putting a lot of effort into it.

  • Taylor Sawyer

    Taylor Sawyer

Yay! I finally finished the buttons for group tagging! I will post them soon but I wanted to tell you what to tag your photo with! Please tag your photo with the following tag:

  • Jan Timmons

    Jan Timmons

Now how the heck did I miss this beauty? And you play the violin? How cool is that!

All the comments and responses are fascinating, too. Printing and framing our own work makes a great topic. I’ve done two test prints, but no framing. Since this is near and dear to you, then it makes sense that you imbued the shot with emotion. The small violin next to the large one conveys that. Have you printed and framed any other photos of your own?

  • OldBirch replied

Thanks, Jan. Yes, that violin and this photo are near and dear to my heart. No, I haven’t yet framed any others, but my family is urging me to. I probably will just to see what they look like finished and on a wall
