The name’s Okee Stiles. I live where I live. I am an artist and a writer. I write scripts for anime, so be on the look out in the near future. As for my art, it’s a mix of all kinds of mediums. I prefer ink over anything else, but oil paints are fun to use. Watercolors are alright as well. Now, my computer generated graphics… I mainly use them on my Kanji designs, but I create other things as well. Alright, now for a history lesson. I started drawing when I was 5 and now I’m 28. In every year I was in school, I had art. So, I had many different teachers. I guess that’s why my art is all over the place. I took college courses for 4 years at FTCC. I made sure I took every painting and drawing class they had, I also took computer design classes. Unfortunately, I had to drop out due to financial issues. I pretty much self-teach myself these days. There’s always something new to learn about art. And, discovering on your own can be quite amazing. In recent years, I opened a shop “cafepress.com/okee” In which I sold my oil, watercolor, and ink drawings. From there, I slowly began to merge into the TEXT oriented designs. It was pretty neat learning all the things you can do with just text. But, it wasn’t enough. You see, I’m a HUGE fan of anime and one thing that always caught my eye was Kanji. That’s the written symbols in Japan and China. There were many ways to write Kanji with calligraphy, but I wanted to do something different. So, I started making Kanji with added effects. In my mind, each symbol should have it’s own look. So, I tried to bring that into life and express the actual meaning of each symbol. I’ll give you an example. Love, it’s usually associated with red. So, I made it red. From there, I thought about how love would feel. Would it be glossy like glass? Or, rough like sandpaper? Those are the types of things I try to put into my work.
