Something you don’t see every day…A closer shot of one of the above-ground storage bunkers at the defunct Green River Arsenal, outside Amboy, Illinois.

The Arsenal, which popped up almost overnight in 1942, covered thousands of acres of farm field. It had its own FD, Post Office, School, PD and Hospital. It manufactured MILLIONS of rounds of artillery shells, bazooka rockets and small-arms ammo. It shut down and went into disrepair almost as quickly as it was created. Many of the buildings still stand (some posted as OFF LIMITS!), including about 60-70 of these storage bunkers. Now, most of the ones left are just decorations in fields once again full of corn or soybeans. :))

Most of my photos are – more or less – sootc. I’ll tweak contrast and brightness on a few, or convert to sepia or B&W, but aside from that, it’s usually just straightening and cropping. I do have fun with a few pix, but that’s rare for me. I use an old Fuji E550 FinePix P&S, exclusively.
