The statement is true, but one could argue that it is only true because this is how you chose to place it; it would be equally true in any any other context simply by the act of wilfully placing it there!
Thank-you Jedidiah, i think you got it pretty spot on there. the mesage could appear to be more negative than it actually is…

wow deep….something i like about this, as much as it’s a bit grim potentially? ;]
I wouldnt necessarily say grim…it can fall both sides of the coin really… but thats a viewers prerogative i suppose… Glad you like it though. Thanks!
yeh i know, i guess it just depends how you come in on it…
The more i look at it… you could be right…
i think perhaps the darkness gives the grim or down type of feel.
I love the absence. the self-loathing of only ‘this’ in the midst of the vast abyss. And yet. there is an honesty and goodness in what ‘this’ is and the ownership amid the nothing. … and the Magritte-ness of the title. making it a wearing down, paring away of the unnecessary and the convince myself I deserve more. and yet. delusion. I do deserve more. and still to be left in the abyss with only ‘this’.
Visually stunning. Conceptually juicy. I Love it!
Im speechless. I never thought anyone would get that close…really.
oops? did I spoil it ? :P ….truly, it’s a lovely piece in all the right ways!
Spoil it? Far from it… I love how you see it.
Been there. Probably be back there. And then gone again. You do hit the nail on the head.
Thank you so much Cathleen, glad you like it… The rest of the series will be up very soon.
I don’t see this as grim – I choose to see strength and wisdom in it. It is, in its own darkly special manner, quite beautiful.
You’re really gathering quite a collection of interpretations here! Always the mark of thought provoking, exceptional art :-)
Im glad you see it that way. I chose not to emphasise ‘This’ and leave it ambiguous to the viewer, but youve hit on my own personal intentions within the piece and i love that. There is a very specific explanation behind it yet im certain that its exposure may ruin it. Thank you for a great comment!
hell yeah. I’m not sure what you intended this to mean… but I know what it means to me, this phrase. Its one I dont use often, but when I do, I mean ever word.
Then i guess we mean the same thing…thanks for a great comment!
Wow, wow. I am much less philosophical. When I saw this, I saw a funeral urn. I felt like I needed a bath with a plastic duck in a bright bright bathroom.
What an amazing comment! Thank you so much.
