Coromandel Coast at night
Went out lastnite to try and make use of the good moon at the moment, ended up at a small beach just past Whangamata. My luck held for a change and we had a lovely night with no cloud and the bay was nice and sheltered from the strong wind which was blowing. It was such a beautiful night I stayed out taking photos till about 2am.
This photo is actually 6 6 minute long exposures which I overlayed using the image overlay function in the camera
Nikon D200
17-55mm f2.8 nikkor lens
polarizer
tripod

The land sits so delicately in the water! Beautifully smooth from long exposures – a serene and slightly surreal image.

Wouldn’t think just by looking at this that it’s taken at night, brilliant work :)

I like doing night shots that look like daylight, but theres always something in them that will let a careful observer know that its not taken during the day time, whether it be the startrails or the look of the water or the different level of contrast you get when using moonlight.
