One wing of an an abandoned 17th century mental hospital in the Netherlands, once part of a beautiful castle/monestary, is about the only part still standing, along with the fabulous chapel. This stone staircase was the only safe way to go up, all the wooden staircases were falling apart.

Wow, it is and was such a beautiful. I can’t imagine someone has not rescued that bannister

  • they do…sort of. This part of the building will remain, but since the demolished just about everything else, everyone can get inside easily and destroy it. Shame isnt it…some people cant see passed money I guess.

That is just something special !

  • In most old buildings, the staircases are well preserved. In my opinion, they show us we dont spend eough money on modern buildings, to make something thats worth keeping,,,

what gorgeous stairs – looks like marble maybe? lovely railing and filigree on it. how exciting to explore a place like this. love this photo.

  • It is very exciting, the whole process is. First finding a place thats abandoned, then find the address, then go there, find a way in, and then the excitement if you find old stuff. Its also very addictive LOL

and yes, its all marble in the old churches…
