after the rain
the trees have a thousand eyes blinking
dazed in the shy sunlight

they whisper and sigh
amongst themselves with the voices
of the wind

while quiet puddles keep the secrets
of water in their mirrored faces
around the mossy trunks

a clan of guinea fowl float
back to rest in the cool rooms
of leaves and branches

in the night the black streams
digging underground
will share their beautiful mysteries

with the hungry roots

Evening at the dam

the moon caresses the cold skin
of the dam white fingers
trickle over black humps
a rebel wind is fleeing through
the trees over the hill
there are stars and stars
and you an i alone on earth
bound up with her fate
tonight

that lawless wind will bind the stars
for a thousand years
and the moon will turn her back
and weep
because the end of love
has come and the earth is without hope
but tonight
your hands still hold the stars
out to me
your mouth is my home
and your eyes your eyes
will save me yet from falling
into darkness

the moon hovers over the abyss
staring deep into some mystery
and I think I can’t contain
any more happiness when you ask
how do you feel when it rains?
