    Bath, my city!

    Awesome manip.

If only such a hotel existed…

  • Tim Daddio replied

If only!! I’m originally from Bath, lived there most my life (for my sins). I took the building shots from my old flat on Great Pulteney Street, out the window and at the buildings opposite.

I live in Bath now. And…I just saw the original inspiration (I think) for this shot: Ormond Gigli. I thought this was Grand Pultney st. What a beautiful street is it eh?! Fantastic photomontage…..i love it!

  • Tim Daddio replied

Hi Anita, I was very lucky to live on Great Pulteney street for about 4 years. The piece came about as a response to a brief for a university project, though I forget what the brief was. About 3/4 through completion of the piece I came across the Gigli photo in a magazine purely by chance and thought..shit!! The original inspiration was in fact Hithcocks Vertigo as each window scene is of a seperate performance. Thanks for mentioning Gigli as I’ve been strugling to remember his name.

  • Anita Schep

    Anita Schep

Awww…that would be so annoying…. Well, as they say, there is nothing new under the sun eh? You lived on Great Pultney St? OH I AM SO JEALOUS!! Id love to live there, although Laura Place is my dream location!

Can I say… very cool. Have you seen the work of Contemporary New Zealand Artist Ava Seymour she has also used this technique in some of her work? It reminded me of that style… anyway this works so well as in image jam packed with narrative. I love it… Well done

  • Tim Daddio replied

Thanks Jody! I hadn’t seen any of Seymours work but just checked it out. Really cool stuff. From what I can see she is creating a real juxtaposition between the background and the out of scale cut out figures within it. I actually built a lifesize window out of cardboard to shoot my models behind to give it some depth and to make it look more realistic but my naiviety with photoshop at the time (it’s about 5 years old this piece) gave it this uncanny feel I guess similar to the Seymour stuff. I dont think I’d be able to recreate now I’m a photoshop pro, which is a shame..

Your image has been ripped Tim, I reported it to deviantART helpdesk on your behalf. He stole some of mine too. http://cooldude2579.deviantart.com/art/Room-in-a-hostel-124132062

  • Tim Daddio replied

Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention. I know nothing about deviant art other than that it exists. Is this something that happens a lot? That is just incredible. I have a fairly laissez- faire attitude towards copyright but what an incredibly scummy thing to do. What purpose does it have? Thanks for reporting on my behalf. Should I do the same do you think??

Don’t sweat it bro, happens to me all the time. I’ve been on dA for 8 years and it’s a pretty run of the mill thing over there. The guy posted one of mine too, ironically it was originally posted on dA and then reposted here. I’ve already reported it and a few others so I shouldn’t worry.

  • Tim Daddio replied

Thanks mate. I’m on there right now, seems he’s nicked loads of peoples stuff. Is this internet kleptomania? Still, you can’t cheat karma:)
