Remembering Home: Star Nation by

This Soothing Image Invites you to come inside through the Unique Perspective Created by the Angle of my Legs and View the Infinite Sky. I created the Velvety Tones of the legs using a Technique I developed as a Student at MSU by Using a Chamois Cloth and Powdered Graphite as a Drawing Tool and the subtle blues in the sky are created with Prisma Color Pigmented Pencil working on Strathmore 100% Cotton Paper. I developed this drawing from 1996 until 2006 when I felt it was in a state of completion.
This work is a Self-Portrait about Flowing Back Home to my Star Nation while Dreaming The Pleiades… My Maternal Great Great Grandmother was a full blooded American Indian who married my Great Great Great Grandfather a Frenchman in Louisiana this branch of my family migrated to the midwest where my Grandfather was born met and married my Scottish Grandmother. I found out about my Native American Grandmother through her photograph in the Family Photo Album she had her long blank hair hanging free flowing down to her ankles wearing a white linen sleeping gown staring straight into the camera with a bold look that said I am here! I resonated with her the most out of all my female ancestors portrayed the rest were dynamic and dressed in stylie clothes beside shinny cars and smiling but it was her bold direct spirit and strength that I saw my soul reflected back at me it was like I was starring into my own eyes hers dark and shinny mine blue green and sparkling… I asked her name of my Aunts, Grandmother and Mother, We don’t know they said, that was your Grandfathers Great Grandmother… My Grandfather was already dead there was no one alive who knew her name… this self portrait is dedicated to my Star Nation and to my Great Great Great Grandmother whose name is lost for the moment in time…this is a really deep emotional experience for me to write and share very empowering as I feel my linage moving within and surrounding me I have tears in my eyes also an abiding strength and sense of my own power and that I can reach through time and I take 10% of the proceeds of the Sales of each Print to dedicate to a genealogy research fund to reclaim my Great Great Grandmothers Name and Tribe…and I Will!
If you resonate with this print and are nourished by it and will benefit by living with it I am making it available for you at a Special Price during My Janurary Light 2013 Sale: $125.00 Matted Archival Print Outside Dimensions 20″ × 16″.
