Just Try

I walked down the street … still smelling hamburgers on the grill, their aromas wafting over. And still hearing the clapping of feet on the cement. But I wished my eyes showed me just as pleasant of an image.
People were stranded, with nowhere to go, nowhere to stay, noone to love. They lay, faces filthily speckled with hair and dirt, grave. None of them moved. They couldn’t move, without being stopped, rejected.
I thought, “They don’t deserve this. They never harmed anybody. They just wanna live their dreams and help society in some small way. They’re just like us. Why can’t we treat them like we treat others?”
I wished I could do something to aid them. My heart ached seeing them depressed, exasperated, angry.
Maybe there’s something I can do to help. Maybe there’s something we can all do to contribute to any issue … because we can do it if we really try.
