What Was Love?

Love
Was a breathtaking journey
Magical
Mystical
And unreal

It was like trekking through angelic snow
But not feeling the cold
It was like soaring through shimmering stars
But not seeing the ground
It was like walking on glistening water
But dismissing the gravity

We could never see it
We could only know it
We could only know
That she would die for me
And I would die for her
That she would wipe my tears
And I would wipe hers

But it’s been a long time
Of heartache
And regret
And sleepless nights
And that feeling of emptiness

I’ve forgotten
The joy
And am left with the hurt
I’ve misplaced
The kisses
And am left with the slaps

And now
I can only recall love
As a dove injured in war
A drink without refills
A novel never published

I’ve been stoned
On the drug of exasperation
And left to drown
In the bitter tears that are my own

Now I’m just one
An insignificant soul
A part of a choir
Singing the blues

Not known
Not remembered
Not cared for
Not loved
