Intervention

Borders and cops
Knives and guns
Politics and government
Divide what’s one

Question
And doubt
We can live
Without

And why must the grass
Come in so many shades
Between so many fences
That the self-repaying all crave

You can say what you want
Of religion and faith
The contentment it provides
The truth-relief to pray

And the truth is harsh
But it’s not that way
It’s false tranquility; an excuse
To separate

And what defines our world
Is an urge to stray
Out of sweet modesty
And well on our way

To materialistic joy
The drug of the “Y”
Bought by the carton
And consumed ’til we die

Remove these blemishes
One day we will,
From a beautiful world
That’s just climbing a hill

Then there will be peace
Lovely serenity
The wash of the winds
Will renew our identity

And it will be tough
Peace is tough
But war is tougher
And that’s enough
