Let's Go Back

Let’s go back

To the times when we could frolick
In a field of purple, orange and green
And still smile
At an endless blue sky
A scampering squirrel
A caress from the sun

We’d let our hearts roam
Free as a dove
Soaring through whitewashed clouds
With a hint of grace
Flawless grace

We’d let our minds wander
Into worlds that weren’t tainted
With a gray coat of disdain
And scorning looks
From those superior

We’d let our mouths speak
Words of apathy
And insolence
And innocence
With accented curses, yos and ain’ts

Our hands weren’t tethered
To a beam of iron
Or a keyboard
Or a calculator
Or a BlackBerry

They still strummed notes
The soft notes of a guitar
They still threw baseballs
The fastballs, curveballs and sliders
They still picked up pennies
The lucky change that we’d blow on

We forged friendships
And relationships
We held hands
And pretended to care
We had hourly phone calls
And kissed in the rain

But those days have passed
Reality has dawned
And attacked
Injected a Joe, Bob or Anne
Sucked out the Homer, Babe or Jordan
Adorned us with a sternness we endeavoured to avoid

Can’t we go back

It’s impossible
But we’d say
Impossible is nothing

oooh this is so well written…a very lovely poem of youth and being carefree..
    I especially like this part:

To the times when we could frolic
In a field of purple, orange and green
    And still smile
At an endless blue sky....bliss…. :)
